Frequently asked questions

Answer the recurring questions in one place.

Use this page for the questions that come up before or during setup: native TDM, supported Macs, Thunderbolt 2 adapters, Network Link and Input Dockstation behavior.

Is TargetBridge native Target Display Mode?

No. TargetBridge is not native Target Display Mode. It is a low-latency Mac-to-Mac display stream built around ScreenCaptureKit, VideoToolbox and Thunderbolt Bridge.

Which Mac can act as the sender?

The current documented sender requirement is an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Which Mac can act as the receiver?

The documented receiver path supports Intel or Apple Silicon Macs with a display and Thunderbolt Bridge support. The project ships separate Receiver builds for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

Can I use a Thunderbolt 2 iMac?

Sometimes yes, but use the official Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter path. Generic USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapters are not enough because they do not carry Thunderbolt data.

Does it only work over Thunderbolt?

Thunderbolt Bridge is the primary and recommended path. Network Link exists as an experimental addon for Ethernet or Wi-Fi scenarios on the same local network.

What is Input Dockstation?

Input Dockstation is the new keyboard, mouse and clipboard relay layer that turns the receiver into more than just a display. It is the "display + input dock" part of the product story.

Why do some benchmark rows say the numbers are not publicly published yet?

Because the project documentation already publishes stream presets, codec paths and hardware requirements, but it does not yet publish reproducible side-by-side latency or CPU/GPU charts for the same sender and receiver pair. The site keeps those cells explicit so readers do not confuse documented presets with measured lab results.

How do I support the project?

Start with the GitHub repository: star it, watch releases, file issues, share results and sponsor the project through GitHub Sponsors if TargetBridge helps you.

Still need more detail?

Need download, docs or support links?

Once the quick answer is clear, the next steps are usually the release build, the docs or the issue tracker.
